The basics of Making your own homemade incense recipes

Updated: Mar 28, 2019

Background

The basic ingredients required for any homemade incense recipe are plants, resins or wood,

Any of them can supply your incense with its primary scent.

When choosing the primary scent it's recommended to choose main ingredients that smell good when burned, however please remember that ingredients that smell great in their natural state might smell awful when burned as incense.

Mint, for example, is notorious for its great smell in its natural state, compared to its awful smell when burned.

Myrrh, as a contrary example, hardly has any smell in its natural form, however when heated we get a wonderful warm smell that's hidden in the resin.

Many aromatics don't smell all that great when burned alone (turmeric for example) but can add a pleasing scent when used in combination with other aromatics.

There is no better way to test an aromatic than simply burn and experience its fragrance.

It's important to point out that each of us experience fragrances differently, so in our opinion, when looking for the best fragrance for you - nothing beats experimenting (plus - it’s totally fun!).
